OK this is an extension of a conversation that I started at the coffee shop last friday.
My question to the group is this:
If you believe that everything in the universe happens according to scientific laws (or probabilities even, as with quantum mechanics and chaos theory and all that), do we really have a free will? In other words, if chemistry always follows known rules, and our brains are just chemistry sets, won't we do the things we do because we have no choice? We THINK we are making a choice, but in reality nothing else could possibly happen. If you don't believe that, then you must believe that we are not subject to the laws of physics, correct?
